Bio Data Education
Home Town: I was born in Edinburg, Texas, but moved to Weslaco, Texas when I was 3 years old. I lived there until I got married.

Graduated From: My college education was at Pan American College and later UT Pan American. I received certification for teaching in Lutheran schools with the Public Endorsement of Lutheran Teaching and the Early Childhood Certificate with Christian Education from Concordia University, Austin.

Years in the Rio Grande Valley: I was born and raised in the Valley. After David and I were married, we lived for a while in Asbury Park, New Jersey and Manhattan, Kansas while he was in the Army. We later lived in Denver, Colorado and Miamisburg, Ohio before moving to Brownsville. We later settled in McAllen, where we have lived the last 35 years.

Best Part About Living in the Valley: I really love living in a warm climate where one can enjoy the great outdoors year-round, especially beautiful Padre Island.
Years at St. Paul Lutheran: This is my 22nd year of teaching at St. Paul Lutheran School.

Total Years in Education: I taught one year at St. Paul Lutheran School in Harlingen. This is my 23rd year of teaching.

Best Part About Working At St Paul Lutheran School: The best part about working here at St. Paul is having the opportunity to share the love of Jesus with children. It is so wonderful to be part of a team that provides a Christ-centered education for our students and a ministry to the families.
Home Life Favorite Quotes/Bible Verses
Family Life: We are so blessed! My husband David and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary this summer. We have three children. Julie and her husband Keith live in Harlingen and have two sons, Blake and Codie. Our son David and wife Debbie live in the Denton area with their son, Nicholas, who is almost two. Our son Michael lives in Baytown, with his big dog, Dublin.

Hobbies: I enjoy baking, sewing, taking pictures of the grandchildren, and spending time with them. I love being a grandma!

What most people don’t know about you: I was the youngest of 8 children. I grew up on a farm. I attended a Lutheran school, as did my husband, our three children, and our two little grandsons. I had only one teacher for grades 1-3 and another teacher for grades 4-8. When in 7th grade and 8th grade, I won first place in the Valley Lutheran Spelling Bees. I was also a Tiger Cub Leader and a Webelo Leader for Troop 99 located at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
My favorite Bible verses are: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart.” Proverbs 3:5, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1, and “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16.

Favorite Quotes: “All that I am or hope to be I owe to my mother.” Abraham Lincoln

“There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One of those is roots, the other, wings.” Hodding Carter

“The most important way to show love is with your time.”
Claim to Fame Message to Your Students
I was named after Shirley Temple, a famous singing child star. That was the closest I came to fame. I participated in the annual end-of-school plays and operettas at the Lutheran school that I attended, as well as 4 years of high school choir activities, but this was for enjoyment, not fame. I enjoy baking. I may be somewhat noted for making Snickerdoodles. I also enjoy sewing. I was a seamstress at Claudeen’s in Asbury Park, New Jersey. I want my students to remember that Jesus loves them very much. He said, “Let the little children come to me.” Mark 10:14. They are very special. I also want them to remember that Jesus is with them all the time, wherever they may be. I want them to put their trust in Him, worship Him, serve Him, and tell others about His great love and gift of eternal life in heaven.
  Message to Parents
Remember the Bible verse from Proverbs 22:6. “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
